The Metropolitan Police Service has a new home, prominently positioned on Victoria Embankment. New Scotland Yard, by Stirling Prize-winning architects AHMM, is a £60m radical remodelling and extension of the stunning, and formerly obsolete, 1937 Curtis Green building. A dramatic curved glass entrance pavilion and glazed rooftop have been added to the building, and cellular offices have been ditched in favour of open-plan working which reflects new working practice. These measures signal a new 21st-century approach, introducing a greater degree of transparency to the public and the press. The result is a landmark civic building that represents the new face of the policing. The iconic revolving sign has been reinstated, providing a familiar backdrop to TV and press interviews.
