Barbara Weiss Architects

London-based Barbara Weiss Architects was founded in 1987. The practice is best known for its high-end residential designs, with more than 200 completed projects, giving it a deep understanding of how families use space. Barbara Weiss Architects’ work in healthcare has been heavily influenced by this knowledge to produce clinical environments that are non-institutional, practical and beautiful. Previous healthcare projects include the widely published Brent Birth Centre at Central Middlesex Hospital, which won a Civic Trust Award in 2006 and was shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award. The project was praised for its calm and approachable interior reflecting the NHS’s aspirations for future clinical environments. The Wokingham Medical Centre is Barbara Weiss Architects’ most recent healthcare project, and continues this tradition. Barbara Weiss was one of the inspirations behind the AJ’s current Women in Architecture campaign. The practice is currently 18 strong, and includes a high proportion of women architects.
