Clerkenwell Design Week 2023 | Featured favourites

At Caro we like to think of ourselves as Clerkenwell connoisseurs – we moved our offices here way back in 1992 and we helped launched the inaugural CDW in 2009.

Located at the centre of London’s architecture and design community, Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) is a window into the languages of local and international design.

But the question is always, where to start?

As the streets transform into a colourful tapestry of resident showrooms, exhibitions, and design showcases, we’ve hand-picked a selection of our key themes, events and happenings for the coming days.

A tale of trends

This year at CDW, design solutions evolve to meet the continued favour for working from home.

We’re also noticing practical designs that inspire joy and creativity – a tonic for productivity in a multifunctional setting.

Nature as an antidote to an increasingly urbanised world is another notable theme – with many activities pivoting on the binding role that design plays in blending community and nature.

Panel discussions, like Sustainable Living: Future Architecture with Nick Crosbie and John Nordon, inspire debate and discussion on public interaction, designing bravely, and driving progressive uses of waste.

And finally, maximalism – especially in terms of colour, continues with a drive to bring personality to living spaces and squash any notions of blending in.

Shared settings

Kvadrat

From 30 wears to 30 years, how long should our clothes last?

Multi-media artist Kate Fletcher works to repurpose garments, demonstrating mending techniques at Kvadrat. Kate’s work gives new meaning to a ‘wellbeing wardrobe’, favouring human and environmental wellbeing over our ever-growing consumption of fast fashion and textiles.

Visit Kate Fletcher at Kvadrat Ltd Stand, 15 Great Sutton Street, London.

VitrA Bathrooms

In collaboration with award-winning artist and designer, Arik Levy, VitrA Bathrooms will present the Voyage collection.

Drawing inspiration from Japanese culture, and created to be deliberately versatile, the Voyage bathroom collection demonstrates consideration for mind, body, and spirit. The collection is entirely wall-hung and exceptionally versatile to account for any small or awkward a space.

Attend ‘Celebrating Voyage: In Conversation with Arik Levy and Erdem Akan at VitrA London, 64 Turnmill Street from 6-9pm, Wednesday 24 May.

Bisley

To mark the launch of Bisley Furniture’s new Home Space, focused on personal and well-being needs, see the installation crafted by interior design writer and stylist Cate St.Hill. Cate will also facilitate a lunchtime discussion to explore the notion of interior design as a therapy for the home.

Join Cate St Hill at an intimate ‘In Conversation’ lunchtime event at Bisley Showroom, 32 Dallington Street, at 12.30pm on Wednesday 24 May.

Domus

With over 50 years of experience providing bespoke flooring products to architects and designers alike, Domus will welcome the colour-driven, multidisciplinary designer Yinka Ilori as he debuts his new collection. Noted for his playful use of colour, Yinka’s tiles reference the geometry and lines used across traditional African patterns and architecture.

Attend Yinka Ilori in conversation with Becky Sunshine at Domus Group Clerkenwell, 23-25 Great Sutton Street, from 1-2pm on Tuesday 23 May.

Fritz Hansen

The Scandinavian brand launches their first outdoor pieces, from the collection Skagerak, within a curated indoor garden. We’re intrigued to see how the brand brings the best of Danish design from the outdoors, in…

Visit the garden Fritz Hansen Stand, 78 Cowcross Street.
