Sir John Soane’s Museum
The Sir John Soane’s Museum, London, is one of the country’s most unusual and significant museums of classical antiquities, casts and models, books and prints of architectural and archaeological interest. Once the house, private museum and library of architect Sir John Soane, it has been a public museum since the early 19th century – in 1833 Sir John Soane negotiated an Act of Parliament to preserve the house and collection after his death for the benefit of ‘amateurs and students’ in architecture, painting and sculpture. The museum runs a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions, and is committed to a continuing and developing education and creative inspiration.
