Pedder and Scampton’s delightful beach huts at Southend-on-Sea, recently shortlisted for an RIBA regional award, will be open for their first full summer season this year. The architects beat more than 40 other architectural practices and completed the first wave of eight huts at the end of last summer. Offering a welcome respite for the hardiest of beachcombers during the dramatic winter we have had, the huts were snapped up last year but will soon be seen at their best in full sun. We hope! Another seven are still to be built, so if you missed out last time you’ve another bite at the cherry.
