Today international designer Philippe Starck has opened the 20th edition of 100% Design at Earls Court.

Show director William Knight comments, “We were absolutely delighted to have Philippe Starck with us today to open the show, and together celebrate such an important milestone in the history of British contemporary design.

International designer Philippe Starck opens UK’s biggest design show 100% Design today. The show celebrates its 20th anniversary with top designers and world-class features.

“100% Design has achieved so much in the last 20 years – from starting as a boutqiue UK design show, to now becoming an international event with an extensive global reach. This 20th edition celebrates the show’s legacy whilst looking ahead to see where design will take us in the next 20 years.

“Not only do we have our best line-up of design brands yet, we also have a series of world-class features that truly encapsulates the unique position of 100% Design in the global design arena, as a leading commissioner of thought-provoking features that engage, inspire and inform.”

Philippe Starck added: “There were no features at the first event many years ago. Now it looks amazing and full of sparkle. I want to congratulate you on the show.”

100% Design opens in Earls Court today, celebrating its 20th anniversary with a giant Lasvit glass chandelier by architect Daniel Libeskind.

The 100% Design experience begins at the entrance to Earls Court where glass manufacturer Lasvit – in conjunction with architect Daniel Libeskind – presents a giant glass chandelier, Ice. The chandelier is made up of clear glass cells that cluster together in a series of puzzle-like, triangular patterns, which capture light, refracting it into exquisite prisms.

Alongside Emerging Brands and International Pavilions, four industry hubs showcase Interiors, Kitchens and Bathrooms, Workplace and Eco, Design and Build, each with an engaging and interactive feature at its heart; from Foam Dome by vPPR architects – a geodesic dome pavilion made from bubble foam, to iAlter by NBBJ architects, a kinetic sculpture that flexes in response to visitors flowing through it.

100% Design opens in Earls Court today, celebrating its 20th anniversary with a high-tech installation designed by NBBJ architects, a kinetic sculpture that flexes in response to visitors flowing through it.

Look out for key brands launching new collections – from Vitra, Heal’s Discovers and Pinch to Studio Job for NLXL (Pad Home), Philippe Starck for Ceramica Sant’Agostino (Capitol Designer Studio), Sir Terence Conran for Fermob and OROLOG by Jaime Hayon.

100% Design has also commissioned the Design Kaleidoscope exhibition – curated by design writer and lecturer Gareth William – featuring product highlights from the show’s 20-year history. In addition, leading design journalist Barbara Chandler has taken a series of portraits of designers who have exhibited at 100% Design during the last two decades. They are on display in a dedicated gallery space within the show.

This year’s Talks with 100% Design, curated by Claire Barrett, features Jaime Hayon, Philippe Starck, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, Daan Roosegaarde and more.
