The book will be officially launched at London Design Festival, at the Margaret Howell store on Wigmore Street, on 23rd September – http://www.londondesignfestival.com/events/robert-welch

Robert Welch’s design legacy remains strong after sixty years, a testament to the endurance and quality of the designer’s products. Trained at the Royal College of Art in London, Robert Welch was one of the leading British designers of the twentieth century.

In 1955 Robert Welch set up his design studio on the top floor of the Old Silk Mill, Chipping Campden, where the company is still based today. Surrounded by hundreds of years of history in this working building, many of the products he designed have helped shape British modernist product design.

Robert Welch: Design: Craft and Industry traces both the progress of Welch’s career, design philosophy and the evolution of the company and products that he created.

Illustrated with exclusive material from the Robert Welch Archive, including working sketches and rare archive photography, this is the definitive book on one of the 20th century’s greatest product designers. With a foreword from Alice and Rupert Welch, Robert’s children and successors at the head of the family business, this book offers a truly personal insight into the life and work of this ground-breaking designer.

The Legacy Collection celebrates Robert Welch’s contribution to the evolution of British product design for the home by bringing best-selling classics such as Radford Cutlery and our Limbrey Salt & Pepper mills together with limited production versions of cast iron products.

Robert Welch – Design: Craft and Industry will be published by Laurence King, September 2015, RRP £30.
