Over 600 exhibitors at one of UK’s largest graduate architecture exhibitions
The Cass, London Metropolitan University will present its annual architecture student showcase at its Summer Show from 24 June – 2 July 2016 as part of the London Festival of Architecture.
The Summer Show at The Cass is one of the largest graduate showcases in London. Featuring work from over 600 students, it will present a range of inventive, creative and visual work, from models and drawings, to films and multimedia installations.
The Cass continues to occupy a unique position in the UK’s architectural educational landscape, in part by engaging a large number of established and emerging practices to teach in their studios and units. These include tutors from some of the most celebrated and exciting practices currently working in the UK including: Assemble, MAE Architects, Feilden Fowles Architects, Routh Rhodes, Cottrell & Vermeulen, Carver Haggard, and Archipelago Architects.
Undergraduates have addressed a range of social issues in London including educational models and architecture in Hackney, housing for an ageing population within the city, and the potential for architecture to accommodate moments of celebration, ritual and festivity. Postgraduate students analysed and proposed solutions to represent the ‘time of architecture’ in the harbor district of Naples, as well as collaborating with colleagues in Japan to develop strategies for areas hit by the 2011 Tsunami.
Andy Stone, Acting Dean of The Cass, said: “Our summer shows are a celebration of the extraordinary work produced by our students each year. Throughout June there is the opportunity for friends, families, employers and collaborators to share in their achievement. In the Architecture show visitors will see is the product of months of hard work and dedication, evidence of the care in their thinking and skill in resolution. I’d like to thank our students for their remarkable energy and engagement which has resulted in such amazing work, and their tutors who have supported and nurtured them with such great commitment.”
Alongside the summer show The Cass, London Metropolitan University have produced CASS SESSION 15/16, a detailed year book, showcasing the work of graduating students alongside introductions and texts from the Faculty’s department heads, students and alumni, which will be available to purchase at the exhibition and online.
