Whitworth Art Gallery is joining the nationwide Lucienne Day centenary celebrations this month with an exhibition, Lucienne Day – A Sense of Growth, which explores the designer’s enthusiasm for gardening. Best known for her textile designs, Lucienne Day (1917 – 2010) is one of Britain’s most influential 20th century designers. This exhibition, which explores how plant forms inspired much of her work, forms part of the gallery’s GROW project that promotes the benefits of gardening to mental wellbeing. People within the local community dealing with social isolation or mental health issues have worked with the Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation to help curate the exhibition from the gallery’s extensive archive. Visit from 1 April to 11 June.
