London Festival of Architecture 2023 | top events for your calendar

The 2023 London Festival of Architecture kicks off today! Throughout June we will collectively explore the festival’s themes of unity, difference, community, democracy and more. If you’ll be at any of these events, well, we have that in common…

Studio Saar

Is local material, craft, and maintenance a viable solution for the future of construction? Discover the Craft Not Carbon Pavilion, in Crystal Palace Park, and join the designers, Webb Yates Engineers in collaboration with Studio Saar and Xylotek for the launch on Wednesday 7 June.

Howells

On Thursday 15 June, James Boyce from Ballymore and Daniel Mulligan from Howells will lead a riverside walking tour of the established new neighbourhood of Royal Wharf – attendees will get a sneak peek of the area’s newest arrival, Riverscape.

On Wednesday 21 June, discover a biophilia-inspired development in Canary Wharf with Simon Ryder from Ballymore and William Poole from Howells, and join a discussion of what the term ‘biophilic’ architecture means and the importance of looking to nature when designing new structures and places.

And finally on Friday 23 June, Howells will open up their London studio to visitors from all design disciplines to discuss the role and value that shared landscapes, high streets, architectural languages, civic spaces, co-creation processes and green spaces have in supporting a sense of ‘in common’.

The Davidson Prize

A place to call home is a fundamental human need, yet not something we all have in common. This year, The Davidson Prize calls on teams to propose a design solution for a home community for people who have experienced homelessness and housing insecurity. On Tuesday 20 June, Istituto Marangoni hosts a celebration of the longlisted, finalist and winning teams.

ADP Architecture

Meet the architects designing for neurodiversity – on Tuesday 29 Jon Roylance and Amy Brazenall will chair a panel discussion exploring inclusive design within a campus setting, with speakers Jean Hewitt, Dr. Claire Gordon and Luisa Pereira Pires.

Gbolade Design Studio

Build Studios and WeAreWaterloo Business Improvement District (BID) focus on the future of Waterloo, in light of a new masterplan for the station at a panel discussion on Wednesday 28 June with speakers Tara Gbolade, Natalie Raben Kirsten Lees, Alessia Montero, Alice Jardine and chair Helen Santer.
