Emerging Designers and Inclusive Installations
At the Shoreditch Town Hall, 2LG Studio will be showcasing young emerging queer designers in the third iteration of its You Can Sit with Us installation at the House of ICON, including works by architect and leatherworker Marf Summers. The underground Salon space will also host tarot readings (if that’s your jam). Elsewhere at the same venue, 21 recent RCA graduates will be displaying products designed for Slow Moments, emphasising craft, intimacy and connection.
But surely the newest possible designers are the ones who haven’t been to college yet. This Bench Has Legs at STORE STORE in Coal Drops Yard will see an unveiling of a new public bench for Camden designed by local teens in a series of workshops led by Attua Aparicio, exploring themes of participation and circularity.
Literary and Curated Design Experiences
For literary delights, head west to Tenderbooks at Cecil Court in Bloomsbury, where Livia Lauber will be showcasing Objects & Stories, a collection of sculptural lights and her USM Haller BOCKSHELF featuring a curated selection of design titles. Visitors are encouraged come and curl up with a book, of course.
New Materials and Global Perspectives
At the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in North Kensington, Terence Woodgate will present Lightness of Form, a range of new works from carbon fibre. For more material explorations, this year’s edition of Material Matters will take place at the newly renovated jet-age landmark Space House.
Alongside an expertly curated exhibition, the show will also feature a talks series organised by the BETTER FUTURE Embassy. The newly launched platform will showcase range of perspectives on international business and opportunities for architects and designers in India and will feature Studio Saar’s Ananya Singhal.
