The pavilion won the inaugural AlMusalla Prize, presented by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, which called on architects, engineers and artists to collaborate to design a space for prayer, at least 50 sqm in size and developed to sustainable principles.
East Architecture Studio worked with Rayyane Tabet and AKT II to develop a modular structure that transforms fronds and fibres left by date palms, into sustainable materials for construction.
Located in the Western Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, AlMusalla is open as part of the Islamic Arts Biennale is open until 25 May 2025.
