Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas airport opens in Shenzhen

The new terminal opened yesterday at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, China, designed by our client Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, their first airport design. Our very own Antonia and Jackie accompanied Owen Pritchard from Icon and Austin Williams from the Architectural Review to experience it first-hand.

Its cathedral-esque volumes hit us first, and sunlight shone through hexagonal skylight onto the floor, which was so polished that it ricocheted off the floor. The use of natural light is so unusual for an airport, and it made it a pleasure to be in. The façade of slanting windows at the main entrance was multifaceted like a diamond façade, pinging rainbows around the interior. Incredible.
