The Cass’s new exhibition Fabric of the City profiles London’s most cutting-edge textile designers

The Cass at London Met hosts a contemporary fashion and textile exhibition, Fabric of the City, this month. To celebrate the historic legacy of the Huguenot Weavers who were based in nearby Spitalfields, fourteen east London-based designers have responded to 17th-century Huguenot textile pieces from the V&A and Museum of London, fusing innovative materials and 21st century technologies with contemporary design. Designers include exciting new talents such as CuteCircuit, who specialise in wearable tech and interactive garments – their K-Dress, a ready-to-wear version of the bespoke creation for Katy Perry to the 2010 Met Gala, is created from a micro-lighting smart textile that changes colour controlled by an iPhone App.
