In 2018, Iittala highlights the versatility of the extensive colour library of its glass factory. The earthy moss green returns to the collection, combined with a delicate yet bold aqua. Dashes of pink complement the unexpected harmony of the colours, all inspired by Nordic nature.
Iittala encourages the use of colours, and finds a beauty in colour combinations, even in the most unexpected ways. Odd color pairings can in fact be the most interesting, spicing up home interiors for a very contemporary look.
After a deep dive to the treasures of our unique glass colour library, Iittala has chosen three shades to enter the spotlight for 2018. Moss green and aqua blue are complemented with a dash of pale pink, to create a balanced yet edgy combination.
Moss green is a traditional and familiar, yet always elegant glass colour. This earthy and approachable base for the combination range is inspired by the Nordic forest. It reminds us of the dark shades of green that emerge through the melting snow before the newer spring green takes its place, to eventually mature into a darker green once again. For the emerging spring and light, aqua blue creates an energized and vibrant mood. Aqua is inspired by the delicate shade of water, and brings out the opacity of Iittala glass in a very delicate way. At the same time aqua is a strong statement, with the colour turning closer to a shade of neon in thicker products. The rich, liquid colour creates interesting reflections and reminds us of the dimensions and richness of water.
The forest and the water are complemented with a dash of cheerful pale pink. Pink celebrates the beauty of nature in the Nordics, where the short summer with its long hours of daylight give rise to the most delicate arctic flowers that carry a hint of pink.
The colours complement the colourful collection of Iittala glass objects. Moss green and aqua are brought to both tableware and the interiors collection: Kastehelmi jars, bowls, plates, tumblers and tealight candle holders, as well as to the classic Kartio glass that is known for its extensive availability in different colours. The Alvar Aalto collection’s most popular glass objects are also available in either the new green and blue shades. The Ruutu vase collection by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec will welcome the arrival of a smaller sized version in aqua.
The splash of pale pink is added to the core collection through small interior objects: Kastehelmi and Kivi tealight candle holders, and the Vitriini box.
All glass products are created in Iittala factory in Finland by its world-leading experts in glass making.
