Illuminated River — transforming the Thames

Architecture and place —

Illuminated River — transforming the Thames

Spanning nine bridges and more than three miles, Illuminated River is the world’s longest public artwork.

Bringing light and colour to London’s bridges, the artwork was designed by internationally acclaimed artist Leo Villareal and architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands and lighting designers Atelier Ten.

The environmentally conscious illuminations are unique to each bridge. Each one has been created to form a ribbon of subtly shifting colour and light, showcasing the architecture and celebrating the history of the bridges.

Since 2017 Caro Communications has handled all communications for the project on behalf of the Illuminated River Foundation, including press outreach, events management, and building and maintaining social media accounts from scratch via content creation and community management.
